Ministry for Primary Industries
The Ministry for Primary Industries' Sustainable Farming Fund (SFF) invests in farmer, grower and forester led projects that deliver economic, environmental and social benefits to New Zealand's primary industries.
The SFF funds "Communities of Interest" to undertake applied research and extension projects that tackle a shared problem or develop a new opportunity. SFF projects are led by rural land owners and managers often with the support of industry organisations, agribusinesses, researchers or consultants. Most successful projects are able to leverage a high proportion of other funding or in-kind support to complement the SFF grant.
The Agricultural and Marketing Research and Development Trust, better known as AGMARDT, invests millions each year aimed at exploring market opportunities, encouraging innovative ideas, and development future leaders within the agribusiness sectors.
Beef and Lamb
Beef + Lamb New Zealand belongs to New Zealand sheep & beef farmers. It's funded by farmers, investing together to benefit the whole industry. This collective investment delivers outcomes that farmers couldn't achieve alone. Beef + Lamb New Zealand exists to support a confident and profitable sheep and beef industry by helping farmers make informed business decisions and promoting their collective interests. Beef + Lamb New Zealand is your organisation and it plays a role at many points in the value chain, providing independent information, tools and services to help you make the best business decisions. We deliver activities through four programme areas - FARM, MARKET, PEOPLE, and INFORMATION. It's all geared towards making continuous improvements on your farm, securing better access to overseas markets, and making sure consumers choose New Zealand beef and lamb.
The FARM programme invests in research and development geared to improving sustainable land and environment management, improving forage and feed efficiency, breeding more productive and efficient sheep and cattle and reducing the impact of internal parasites. Knowledge and tools from these research findings are then packaged and delivered to farmers for use on their farms, through the Beef + Lamb New Zealand extension programme.
